Follow Friday! (2)

Feature & Follow Friday is a weekly meme created by Parajunkee and co-hosted by Alison Can Read where bloggers hop around meeting and following other bloggers. This week's featured bloggers are Once Upon a Prologue & Alison Can Read

Q: If you could change the ending of any book (or series), which book would you choose? And, why?

A:  Really, I wouldn't change anything to most stories. An author chose to end a story a certain way because he/she felt that was the perfect way to end it. I am not going to lie and say I have enjoyed every ending to a book I've read, because I haven't. Sometimes a bad ending to a book can completely destroy how I feel about a series.

Take Twilight for an example. The very first book had a lot of potential. It could have turned into something amazing and yet in the second book I could tell the plot was starting to fall apart. The last book, Breaking Dawn was a train wreck. Everything felt so rushed and not even a little bit realistic at all.

Mockingjay was also another loss for me. The Hunger Games was probably one of the best YA Dystopian books I have ever read. Catching Fire was just as good too but I got a sense of the plot beginning to weaken by the end of it. When Mockingjay rolled around my expectations were sky high for it being the last book. I was let down. Katniss was supposed to be a strong heroine and willing to fight for what she loved, in Mockingjay all that determination seemed to leave her and she was just a depressed teen who gave up. I loved Katniss's determination and will to fight, when I read about how moody and emo she was it just irritated me. Suzanne killing off so many characters also infuriated me. It was just too depressing for my taste. I would have atleast kept Prim and Finnick alive, and given Katniss back her strong will.

So what do you guys think? Anything you wanna change?

  2. Hopping through. I don't mind that Prim died, but I sure wish Finnick had lived. I was also irritated about how weak Katniss felt at the end.

  4. I haven't read the Hunger Games yet, so I really can't give an opinion. As for Breaking Dawn, I didn't hate it. I just didn't like it as much as the others.

  5. Mockingjay was a bit of a disappointment. Not a terrible one, but I was a bit let down with the final reactions.

  9. I agree 100% with your Mockingjay thoughts. I had these epic expectations, and Katniss just took a backseat role. :(

  10. Thanks for stopping by my blog! I'm an old follower, but I agree with you about not changing endings. Typically, although I might not be satisfied with it, I don't feel the need to rewrite the end. Good answer :)

  11. Mockingjay was my answer too! I was upset that Prim died, and the way the final scenes played out. Overall, after the epic awesomeness of Hunger Games and Catching Fire, I thought Mockingjay just fell flat.

  12. Mockingjay and Breaking Dawn seem to be people's go-to answers to this week's question. I hear ya though, I don't think endings should be changed. They are what they are!

  13. Yes! I picked Breaking Dawn as well. Ugh, I was expecting so much more :( And you bring up an interesting comment about Mockingjay. As much as I loved the book, I so wanted to see Finnick survive.

  14. You should read Divergent, it's an awesome dystopian YA read. I loved it!

My 'ending grumble' was about Last Sacrifice (Richelle Mead) and you can find it on my blog.

  16. I also thought that Mockingjay would have been better with a few changes, but I guess it is what it is. Nice answer and thanks for stopping by my blog! Following back!

  17. Thanks so much for stopping by Release Notes! Some storylines may not be meant for serials and the plots eventually fall apart. Following back!

  18. Thanks for stopping by my blog! I agree with you about Mockingjay, and understand where you are coming from on Breaking Dawn, but disagree because I felt it went where the author wanted it to go, and it was her story to tell.

I totally agree with what you said about Breaking Dawn! I have yet to read Mockingjay but I already feel as if I won't be satisfied with the ending :(

  21. I think I'm one of the few who enjoyed Breaking Dawn and Mockingjay more than the other books in those respective series. Breaking Dawn is when Bella seemed to come alive; IMO before, she was a bland character. She became very vibrant in BD.
Mockingjay evoked a lot of emotion in me. I was sad when Prim died, but I feel like that was key to the actions in the rest of the story. And it helped make the ending bittersweet.

  22. Awww, Finnick. I cry every time I open the book and see his name. :/ Agreed that his and Prim's death were too much.

Thank you for following my blog - I'm following back. :)
